Central Avenue gathers strolling figures beneath a line of colorful suspended chairs. Buildings, trees, tents, and signs crowd the lively street, suggesting the bustle of a summer attraction.
Judith Reidy uses oil paint to balance the broad blue-gray street with brighter accents above and among the visitors. The overhead line gives the scene a playful rhythm, while overlapping figures lead the eye into the distance.
The painting celebrates the feeling of being out among other people on a busy day. It is a cheerful choice for someone who enjoys fairs, public gatherings, and the changing sights of a walk along an animated street.
