A broad porch and steep roof give this hilltop home an unmistakable character. Pale trim outlines the yellow walls, while a stone retaining wall and garden plantings connect the house to the street below.
The viewpoint looks upward toward the architecture, emphasizing the porch’s repeating posts and the roofline against the sky. Greens around the building soften its structure and add the sense of a home settled into its surroundings.
Inspired by a house just north of downtown Port Washington, Wisconsin, the painting asks the viewer to slow down and notice. It offers a warm subject for anyone who loves older homes and the details that make a neighborhood memorable.
