Rose #3

A coral and pink rose opens beside a closed bud, glowing against deep green shadows. An expressive acrylic painting celebrating new growth and hope.

Rose #3 presents an opening rose beside a tightly closed bud, bringing two stages of growth into a close floral view. Coral and pink petals rise above a warm yellow base, while dark green surroundings make the bloom’s bright edges stand out. The neighboring bud offers a smaller, more contained shape beside the unfolding flower.

Judith Reidy’s acrylic brushwork gives the leaves and stems as much energy as the petals. Yellow, blue, and white accents trace leaf edges and catch light along the slender forms. These lively colors contrast with the shadowed background, allowing the rose, bud, and foliage to remain distinct within a compact composition.

Part of Emblems of Rebirth, this painting finds a hopeful subject in the ordinary process of a flower opening. The pairing of bud and bloom suggests both anticipation and arrival, while the expressive surface keeps the image immediate and animated. It invites a closer appreciation of the changing shapes, vivid colors, and small details of new growth.
